Problem updating iPod touch 4 !!!?

I haven’t updated my iPod to the new iOS since my laptop had a virus, and I recently just got a new one, I already sync’d my apps and everything. But when I want to update, it backs up and then it says, ( An error occurred while backing up this iPod (-43) . Continuing will result in the loss of all contents on this iPod).
Am I doing something wrong?? I don’t want to lose all my apps. Has this happened to anyone before!!

OH! This happned to my boyfriend, he had near enough 800 songs, lost them all and all of his apps, progresses the LOT! It’s update 5.0.1. i believe, not sure, i haven’t.

You shouldn’t have any trouble backing up to 4.2.1 . Try backing your stuff up first. If that doesn’t work then back it up on a different computer, go back to the one with iTunes>update, then sync everything again.

Ok, we have a wireless router, and it works, but when 3 laptops are using the internet, and someone is playing internet games on the ps3, the ps3 internet gets major lag.. Like when playing MW3, and when people are on the laptops, the game nearly becomes unplayable from the major lag. Sooooo.. What type of wireless router would be best to handle this type of usage.

The router isn’t your problem period. You need better internet service. End of story.

How do i connect 2 laptops to the internet?

I have a house computer and a laptop. The internet goes to my computer to router to laptop. I am getting rid of my computer and getting another laptop…so how will the internet go to both my laptops, withouth the house computer?

I am guessing your modem connects to your desktop using USB and that is why you dont have the modem connected straight to the routers WAN Port.

If your modem can use a ethernet cable then connect it staright to the router and setup the router to connect to the internet. If the modem only uses USB then you will either need to connect it exactly how you have it now or get a modem that can use a ethernet connection.

The best way to protect your network is to use explicit access control based on Media Access Control (MAC) addresses that a uniquely identify each network interface. Most broadband routers have such access control feature readily available, but the degree of simplicity to configure and enable them depends on make/model and firmware revision of the router. You’ll need to consult the documentation for specific instructions for "Access Control" and/or "MAC Filtering" for wired and wireless services.

Securing the wireless portion will be relatively easy: Choose the most advanced algorithm and the longest encryption key possible. WPS is the latest and simplest technology (pretty much all systems made in the last 2 years support it), followed by WPA2 and WAP (which has 1 known vulnerability that occurs only in 1 specific type of configuration). Avoid WEP – it's relatively easy to crack (but it's better than nothing, as outlined in the article "Securing your wireless network" listed in the sources below).

I would suggest the following measures:

1.Change the administrator password to a non-default password.
2.Don't broadcast your SSID (so it won't show up in a network list).
3.Change channel from default (unless your router is capable of sensing conflicts).
4.Reduce your Wifi transmitting power (reduce the area of coverage to a minimum).
5.Use MAC filtering for access control.
6.Use the most sophisticated encryption available.
7.Use a non-default IP address range (e.g. 192.168.121.x or 192.168.137.x is better than 192.168.0.x or 192.168.1.x because these ranges are harder to guess)

For the wired ports, things are a bit more complicated (and again depend on make/model and firmware revision of your router and switches): There is usually less security on wired connections because of historical evolution and an assumption that physical access can be limited to trusted people. So, let's start with physical access: Put all routers, switches and modems into a lockable room (or a lockable cabinet with sufficient ventilation). Try to protect CPUs and wall outlets so that there is no easy access (i.e. expose only keyboard mouse and monitor and hide the CPU and network connections in cabinets).

If you cannot physically protect the network connections (i.e. somebody can unplug a cable either at the computer or a wall outlet), you can implement some logical measures but these are somewhat limited with consumer-level hardware (because of costs and the fact that such devices are meant to enable access rather than prevent it). In some cases, routers also apply the above mentioned MAC filtering rules to wired connections. This would be your first line of defense.

However, on hubs and simple Ethernet switches, the data traveling on the wires can be seen by all devices on the network. This makes it relatively easy for a cracker to install a packet sniffer, look into the traffi and learn what devices are attached. The cracker then can configure his or her system to pretend it was a legitimate system – a process that is called "spoofing." That's why in high-security environments use more sophisticated ethernet switches (for example the Cisco 3550 series) that enable and disable physical ports and authenticate attached systems and their users based on access control systems like Tacacs+ or Radius. Taking advantage of such features requires authentication servers and software installed on the client systems that deal with the challenge/response mechanisms (additional hardware and software = additional costs).

Security is a trade-off based on a cost/benefit analysis (how much security do you need and how much time and money are you willing to spend on implementing and maintaining it compared to how much you could actually lose in terms of stolen data or stolen services). By the same token, cracking networks is also subject to a cost/benefit analysis: How much time and effort is a cracker willing to spend to intrude a network.

At the end of the day, no security measure is perfect and all networks can be cracked. It’s sensible to protect yourself by setting the bar as high as possible. So, I hope my answer provides you with some insights and guidelines for securing your network as good as possible with what you already have.

Yes. First you need a router. It doesn’t matter if you connect to it using Ethernet cables or Wi-Fi. It will connect to the modem and let you share and internet connection. You can share files just as easily as with two Windows computer. You can use either one or both to host the shared folder. In the Ubuntu file manager, right click on the folder you want to share and select sharing options. Select the name for the share. The domain shouldn’t matter. This will share it without a password. Then open a terminal under accessories and type ifconfig. That will tell you the ip address. It should be something like 192.168.0.2. Then you can go to map network drive under computer in Win7 and enter ip.addressshare-name in the box. Replace ip.address and share-name with the correct information. Then you will be able to connect. Leave the password blank. After sharing a Windows folder, You can go to file-connect to server in the Ubuntu file manager. Select Windows share from the drop down menu, enter the right info and connect.

You can use the Home Sharing feature but the easiest way is to e-mail or IM the FILES then import them to iTunes.

refurbished laptop computers.I noticed that my old laptops battery didn’t hold it’s charge anymore. It would have to be plugged in the entire time otherwise it would shut off and die right away.

With my new laptop, I want to make sure that its battery will hold it’s charge and last longer than my older one. What steps should I take or what should I do to make sure it will last?

I hear, when you get a NEW laptop, or anything with a rechargeable battery, you should charge it over night. Straight out of the box, a nice long charge, and don’t take it out even if it says full.

I hear also if your in the house, try not to keep letting the battery die then charge it, keep the laptop plugged in. Interestingly i hear leaving it plugged in too much is also not good so i have been using a happy medium.

Most modern laptops have a power save software program built in. This usually automatically manages everything to optimize the performance for what battery life you have left. Although, there are some things you can do yourself to make sure it has a good healthy life.
When you charge it, make sure you fully charge it (not 50%, 75% etc.).
If you’re working on battery power, try not to run too many power consuming applications (things like full screen games, HD video etc).
Last but not least, if you ever want to leave your computer for a short amount of time, never leave it running; you can turn on Hibernation (or sleep on a Mac) which will save your session to disc whilst consuming the least amount of power.

3. When it’s fully charged AND you’re using it, take it out. When it gets to about half charge, go ahead and plug it in again. Repeat.

Laptop battery will always be losing its capacity over time. I have beard to have the battery constantly charging is the worst you can do to shorten its life.

So whenever you have the battery fully charged you shall remove it from your laptop as long as you are plugging in with the AC powder.

Rechargeable batteries form a ‘memory’ of their use. In all cases of using rechargeables, charge it right out of the box for 24 hours. Then use the battery until it’s power is spent. Recharge and go through the same cycle several times.
If you recharge your battery when it is only at 50% on a consistent basis, it will get locked into that lower limit and you will only get 50% of it’s available power. Same with charging. Not charging to full capacity will make it’s upper limit get locked in at less than full.

Never leave the battery in your laptop when it’s fully charge and hooked onto the wall.

Once the battery is fully charge, take it out of your laptop unless you are going to power your laptop with it.

Try to always wait until the battery is low to recharge it as you will minimize the number of cycles (charging and discharging). laptop batteries have a limited number of cycles before they don’t hold a charge.

You would need to purchase a (wireless) router for that. You need to connect the router to your modem and connect both laptops to the router, either wired or wireless, depending on the router which you will purchase.

You do not pass through US customs when leaving the US. Indian customs will not care if you have two laptops with you. However, if you are stopped, they will probably want to know whether they are both yours and whether at least one of them is brand new. So you should have used both of them prior to traveling.

My last business trip I carried my laptop, an LCD projector, a 2 way radio, and my mobile phone. The only one who cared how much electronic junk I was carrying was security when they wanted to test for bomb residue (Irish Terrorist) and if my laptop works. I bring 2 all the time without any hassles (one work laptop and one personal laptop). Five might be too much since no one would personally use 5 laptops in a single trip. I would not advice checking in the laptops since they can get damaged in transit if not properly packed. I also read somewhere that it is not wise to check in laptops although I have done this a few times in the past when my carry-ons were just too heavy to add another laptop.

You can put them in your luggage checked in definitly. I would try to put them in carry on myself as expesnvie as they are. They throw the checked in stuff around so much & they do steal stuff out of checked luggage. My husband travels all the time with 3 laptops of his own for work, they all have different purposes & he just has a big expandable case on wheels with dividers in it he carries them on with. I know they say they only open luggage for security checks, but he had one brand new suede shirt missing right after Christmas with the tag still on it, cell phone chargers, calculators, an expensive lighter, cuff links, shoes, I can’t tell you the things that has has missing out of checked in luggage just in the last year. Airlines just say “we have no idea, no employee of ours would take it”. This is all airlines not just one either.

The above answers are good, there is no limit to how many laptops you can carry with you, you might want to insure anything you put in your check-in bags as the general rule of travel is “if you value something, carry it on, and don’t check it in.” I had a friend who had his laptop stolen from a check-in bag. You may have a problem when you get to the Philippines with the customs inspectors, I’m sure customs would require you to pay duty on 5 laptops that you plan on leaving in the Philippines, just be aware of that, whether you want to declare them or not is none of my business.

I was already admitted and was suppose to go this fall to IU-Bloomington, but I am still unsure. My next step will probably be getting a written statement from the office that says that if I reapply I am GUARANTEED the scholarship. Will getting a written statment from them stating that I WILL get the scholarship if I cancel then reapply be enough of a guarantee that I will get the scholarship because I don’t know which office to trust.
