Okay, so like everyone else in the world, I’m trying to update my iPod Touch 4th gen to iOS 5. But whenever i click update, when it tries to back my iPod up, I get a message that pops up that says “An error occurred while backing up this iPod (-5000). Would you like to continue to update this iPod? Continuing will result in loss of all contents on this iPod. So two questions; one, what would happen if i clicked continue, and two, how the heck do i fix this? Thanks!
Your ipod should be backed up on your computer it does it everytime you plug your ipod in. So click continue and it will erase everything but then give you a option to restore your backed up data.
itunes kernelbase.dll hatasiI want to update my ipod to run on 4.0 software but I have a couple problems. Whenever I click update a message comes up that says “There are purchased items that have not been transferred to your itunes library. You should transfer these items to your itunes library before updating this ipod. Are you sure you want to continue?” I backed it up and synced it before that and everything on my ipod seems to be on iTunes. If I select yes it continues to backup before installing the new software, which takes FOREVER. About 1/16 of the bar fills up in about 2 hours. It took me a couple tries to even make it that far. I kept getting this message “”An error occurred while backing up this ipod (-402653077). Would you like to continue to update this ipod without backup? Continuing without backup will result in the loss of all contents on this ipod.” Does that mean I would lose contacts, pictures, and notes? Thanks for your help, I know something is wrong with my iTunes or ipod.
just go to i-tunes and ask the company, they are really great helpers and will help you within 24hrs, thats IF you have patience, after my computer crashed and i re-booted ALL of my purchases from my ipod touch ERASED, so i e-mailed the company, gave them my e-mail address and within a day or two, BAM! my purchases are back! they should help you with your problem, but BE descriptive
First just bypass the update. Make sure all of your content is on your computer. For iTunes purchases, iTunes, top left, File>Transfer Purchases. Then do the backup outside of the update. When that’s done, then do the update and skip the backup part. If you still have any problems, get e-mail help from iTunes. Their customer service has always been great but they’ve really been wonderful since the update was released and the wait-time for a reply is has been amazingly quick.

Organizations invest considerable time, effort, and money making sure systems and data are backed up. And well they should: with virtually every aspect of business dependent on automated systems or electronic data, the ability to recover quickly is essential to business continuity. But how reliable are your backups? Even if the backup job reports success and the backup file passes its integrity check, you have no assurance that you can actually recover from that backup. Theres always the risk of storage corruption. And with image-level backups, there are more moving parts and more that can go wrong.
