I have been trying to update my 3rd gen. ipod touch to the new 4.0 software, but every time I try to update I get this message:
An error occurred while backing up this iPod (-5000).
Would you like to continue to update this iPod without
backup?
Continuing without backup will result in the loss of all content on
this iPod.
Anyone know how to fix this? Thanks
Hello there, as long as your files are still on your iPod, you can backup them onto your computer and iTunes easily.
This is how I did. I used MediaWidget to move all library files from my iPod onto my computer and iTunes http://www.gutensoft.com/Utilities/MediaWidget.htm
It can transfer all iPod content to the iTunes on your computer, including iPod music, movies, playlists, videos, podcasts, ratings, last played, and more. It’s such a powerful one that many friends around me have used it for a long time. Easy and safe.
Now all files are on your computer and iTunes, you can sync your iPod with it smoothly without deleting any files.
Just free download it to try.
For more iPod support information you can also go to http://www.apple.com/support/
itunes kernelbase.dll hatasiI wanted the new software on my 8gb 2nd Gen. ipod touch, and so I downloaded new itunes. Anyway, I synced my ipod, then I pressed “update”. Then it would tell me it was backing it up. After about 2 hours, the bar had barely moved an inch, and then it said “an error occurred while backing up your ipod” Okay, I figured, maybe I didn’t have to do that. So when I go back to do it again, it tells me that if I don’t back it up, all my stuff will be lost. How can I fix this?
Next time please write down what operation system do you use
You’re most likely using Windows Vista or Windows 7. Therefore, here’s how you fix this:
both those versions of windows open programs without the ability to install things on your computer/devices unless you specifically let them to do so using the “open as administrator” option.
For iTunes it’s a bit more annoying to do but here is how you do it:
1. if you right-click on your iTunes shortcut, most likely you won’t see the “open as administrator” option even there (if you did see it, just click on it and jump to step 3 :-3). Therefore, you need to manually go to the place where you installed iTunes (by default it’s: C:Program FilesiTunes)
2. right-click on the iTunes.exe file and then select “open as administrator”.
3.You’ll get some warnings opening up but just click yes/allow on everyone until iTunes opens.
Now try again to update your iPod/iPhone. I think this should fix this.
If this still doesn’t work, you probably need to manually update your iPod touch.
You can download the update manually here according to your model type:

and here’s how to install it:

if even that didn’t work. your welcome to contact me and I’ll try to help in other ways if I can.

A video blog about my 24 inch iMac’s 750gb hard drive failure. The drive span down while active and upon running the tech tool deluxe diagnostic utility the surface scan found 1 error. The following message occurred: Media defects cause this test to fail. You should consider backing up the device, reformatting the media, replacing the data, and then testing again.
